If more businesses and people thought like this we wouldn't have to be worried about recessions and what the Amercians' are doing. Old companies that operate like this are a dying breed, so it's amazing that a new company is trying to do it. I hope this store gets the support it needs to flourish and start a movement amongst the people.

You would probably also enjoy Dr. Gordon Neufeld's book "Hold On To Your Kids". He co-wrote that book with Gabor Mate. I recently saw Dr. Neufeld for the 2nd time in my life, and this time I was finally really listening. The lecture changed everything for me, as I've got two children who have issues with what Neufeld describes is not ADD, but a matter of immature brain development; more specifically the prefrontal cortex. Anyway it is *fascinating* reading because Dr. Neufeld shows that there is in fact hope for change, as we can stimulate the maturation process through attachment, and thus help bring the child through to a mature brain, and not one that's "stuck" in what looks like ADHD.

Very well-written article and well worth the read. I'm guilty of lapsing too often and succumbing to the current in-store special and KNOW it's not right, but I do insist on Fair Trade when I go out and buy a coffee treat at the local cafe. Queen's Commons in Kitchener (established by the Working Centre) serves the best-tasting and most affordable Fair Trade coffee in town and The Front Window store in the same area sells several kinds of whole bean and ground Fair Trade coffee that can be purchased for cash of BarterWorks Dollars. Slowly but surely we're making a difference... - Pauline Finch (related to Peter Finch, but other side of the country, LOL!)

Now there's a challenge which really isn't painful!
Simply buy fair trade organic coffee, and each one of us can make a difference.
With any combination of composting, growing your own veggies, decreasing or eliminating meat consumption, and decreasing or eliminating the use of a car, it can add up to a really significant reduction to our individual carbon footprint.
